...किताबें हाथ में लिए तुम केवल समुद्र के किनारे फिर रहे हो। तीस रुपये की मुंशी - गीरी के लिए अथवा बहुत हुआ, तो एक वकील बनने के लिए जी - जान से तडप रहे हो -- यही तो भारतवर्ष के नवयुवकों की सबसे बडी महत्वाकांक्षा है। तिस पर इन विद्यार्थियों के भी झुण्ड के झुण्द बच्चे पैदा हो जाते हैं, जो भूख से तडपते हुए उन्हें घेरकर ' रोटी दो, रोटी दो ' चिल्लाते रहते हैं। क्या समुद्र में इतना पानी भी न रहा कि तुम उसमें विश्वविद्यालय के डिप्लोमा, गाउन और पुस्तकों के समेत डूब मरो ? आओ, मनुष्य बनो! उन पाखण्डी पुरोहितों को, जो सदैव उन्नत्ति के मार्ग में बाधक होते हैं, ठोकरें मारकर निकाल दो, क्योंकि उनका सुधार कभी न होगा, उन्के हृदय कभी विशाल न होंगे। उनकी उत्पत्ति तो सैकडों वर्षों के अन्धविश्वासों और अत्याचारों के फलस्वरूप हुई है। पहले पुरोहिती पाखंड को ज़ड - मूल से निकाल फेंको। आओ, मनुष्य बनो। कूपमंडूकता छोडो और बाहर दृष्टि डालो। देखो, अन्य देश किस तरह आगे बढ रहे हैं। क्या तुम्हे मनुष्य से प्रेम है? यदि 'हाँ' तो आओ, हम लोग उच्चता और उन्नति के मार्ग में प्रयत्नशील हों। पीछे मुडकर मत देखो; अत्यन्त निकट और प्रिय सम्बन्धी रोते हों, तो रोने दो, पिछे देखो ही मत। केवल आगे बढते जाओ। भारतमाता कम से कम एक हज़ार युवकों का बलिदान चाहती है -- मस्तिष्क - वाले युवकों का, पशुओं का नहीं। परमात्मा ने तुम्हारी इस निश्चेष्ट सभ्यता को तोडने के लिए ही अंग्रेज़ी राज्य को भारत में भेजा ....Swami Vivekanand
